Week 2 Lab Deliverables

This week the lab asked for a presentation of a map using ArcGIS. The assignment was pretty straight forward and overall not extremely difficult. The directions for the assignment were very good and allowed for more user control of the map and exploring each section compared to the ESRI instructions which told you every exact detail.

ESRI ArcGIS Module 1

Figure 1: Potential Youth Center Locations

Figure 2: Plan a Trip to San Diego

Figure 2: For the 'Plan a Trip to SanDiego' excercise I followed all instructions and completed it with little difficulty. I found the hotels close to the shore which matched my search criteria then located the attractions I wished to visit using the trolley. I was also able to use the software to locate information about each hotel to place a reservation. I did have trouble finding a few keys here and there but with patience and persistance I was able to complete the excercise.

Figure 1: For the 'Find potential sites for a youth center' excercise there was a little more work involved although it was straight forward for the most part. Using the software to show different sets of data from different areas and then merge them together was very interesting to me and has a lot of applications. I was able to successfully select the best areas for youth features and city zoning then find an appropriate city building location for the possible youth center. I did not have any difficult in completing the excercise although there were times when I did get confused as to what it was asking. Also, it seemed like there were a few times when the directions differed from what was actually on my screen even though I was not using 9.2 software.
